Carlin McCarthy is a visual journalist, Emmy-nominated broadcast news producer and journalism educator. She currently is pursuing an M.A. in Engagement Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
She most recently was a Segment Producer at NBC News’ Top Story with Tom Llamas where she researched, edited and produced live segments and packages for air. Carlin previously also worked as an associate producer with ABC News’ World News Tonight with David Muir where she was responsible for producing and editing stories for the #1 network news program in the country. As a an assistant production coordinator, McCarthy handled production logistics on BuzzFeed’s flagship series, including Tasty, Nifty and As/Is, where she worked on-set as camera operator, grip, gaffer and production sound for hallmark productions such as Worth It, The Try Guys and Behind Tasty.
She is an instructor with the Broadcast, Video & Photo program at the prestigious month-long Medill-Northwestern Journalism Institute where she has been instrumental in implementing the infrastructure for the institute’s multimedia curriculum. She is also responsible for conducting lectures for 90 students each summer on visual journalism fundamentals, ethics, combating misinformation and equitable reporting, managing multimedia equipment and training staff members.
Carlin’s photography has also appeared in the NYCity News Service, Snatch Magazine, Chaotic Merge magazine, orangepeel mag and Pile Press among others.
She is based out of New York.
